Dear Bahamians Online,

Again, I would like to thank all of you for your unwavering support of my dreams and aspirations. I am excited to announce that, finally my CD entitled Brettina is in the final stages of production!

This project has been a labor of love. I knew what I wanted musically, but found it hard to get just that. I didn't want to compromise my true sound for the sake of trends. I just wanted to write songs from my heart.

After penning and recording "Bahamian Girl" several years back, I came to this decision: that I wouldn't allow anyone to sway me in any direction other than what I intended.

My new jazz CD consists of eleven songs. I penned five, including my personal version of "Bahamian Girl" and an original jazz song that my uncle Kirk Coakley wrote for me. I recorded a rendition of my uncles' (The T-Connection) famous 1981 song "Paradise" along with a couple vintage jazz classic and something dear and special for my Bahamian people, "Island in the Sun". That song is dear to my heart because I remember walking home from C.I. Gibson Middle School singing it loud and proud as people looked at me like I was a little bit crazy.

On this project I have had the opportunity to work with an amazing producer who understands what I'm doing. I recorded with fantastic musicians who enthusiastically embraced my vision. Naturally I wanted to pay homage to the sounds of my island heritage and my love of jazz to create an organic sound.

The first single will be released for preview in January. I look forward to hearing your feedback – constructive and all. The complete CD will be available March 2010, on CD or by download. Again, thank you, my people, for all your support on my journey.
