Winter time in the Bahamas is not complete without a trip to the Carnival. Every December through January, ever since I can remember, the Carnival comes to town. They set up shop at the Sports Centre complex in Oaks Field. This year was no different, and from early December you could see the bright lights at nights and the pleasant sounds of kids and adults enjoying rides and playing games.

This Friday, being bored, I decided to call up a few friends and ask them if they were up to ‘going to the carnival.’ Two out of the three were up for it, because, they like me were bored silly.

We stopped at the hamburger stand, got a couple giant hot dogs and  sodas. That shit cost us a whole $20 when we added it all up. Luckily my boy covered that expense, because I was watching my dollars.

Then it was time to  chose the rides. First up was the giant Ferris wheel. That was fun for the first 2 minutes. I remember thinking to myself, what is a grown man like me doing on this shit. Then I remembered… Oh I’m bored silly. The annoying thing is that it kept stopping as the operator was making sure he made his quota for the week. Thanks Hank, or what ever his carny name was.

Next we checked out one of those ‘sucker’ games, where they have the giant 5 foot Teddy Bears to get you to play their ‘impossible to win suckerish games’. But you know how we Bahamian guys go when a gal is around, of course we had to try our hand. Each guy secretly hoping he would be the one to win the girl along with us a giant teddy. This gal we were out with was average looking, but she was soliidddddd. Anyways back to the thing. So this game was where you had to use a pole from which hung a string and a ring attached at the end. The object was to use the ring to hook around a beer bottle, and in this case a Guiness bottle and stand up the beer bottle without it (the beer bottle) falling off the  platform.  $30 later, No Teddy Bear and 2 pissed off guys and a slightly disappointed solid gal.

Next up some more rides. So we went down to where some slamming music was playing. I think they were playing Dutty Wine and Hot Wuk. I didn’t like that fast ride in the far eastern corner, so we went on the Gravity (something Thriller – see photo) ride. What you do is stand up against the wall; the operator throws a switch and the shit spins like a top and you are basically controlled by the gravitational vertigo forces. Anyways after a couple minutes of that I was like damn what am I doing in here, didn’t I ride this last year and the year before?? Oh yea I forgot I’m bored..

Anyways so 4 or 5 rides later, $156 in the hole, we left the carnival in a daze. Well we did have some fun, and the girl is solidddddd. Maybe I’ll get a kiss on the cheek when I drop her home J
