Hubert Ingraham announced on Friday, two days after the Free National Movement (FNM) won the May 2nd 2007 General elections, that there would be a Victory Celebration on Saturday. Island wide the preparations with in many households began right away. Ok so who will I go to the Victory Rally with? What will I wear? And how will I get there? Bahamas White & Yellow Pages: Find Anyone living in the Bahamas. My story was probably average if you’re a guy. First check my cell phone text lists, which girl had text me first that she wants to go and needs a ride. The usual suspects were there. Girl #1, Girl #3 and my sister. Ok lets see, Girl one gets top priority, but she doesn’t get along with my sister who I kinda have an obligation to take. Girl #3 on the other hand is a risk, that maybe I don’t want to tackle this issue this early in the year. Finally decision after a couple of 15 minute calls was Girl#1 minus the sister, who was convinced to call her other girl friend who I had on good authority was going. With the details set, what do I wear, for me being a guy was easy, a Red FNM T-shirt and black jeans with black air jordans. I had collected a wide assortment of political T-shirts over the course of the election campaign. Come Saturday, I pass by Girl #1 around 7:30pm and of course she is mid- make up process. So that means a long uncomfortable wait sitting on the couch while her family mills around and the answering of a few awkward questions from her family. Thank goodness the Father is out. So finally at 15 past 8 pm we roll. Good conversation in the car, get pass the traffic and the ‘finding a decent parking spot where we don’t have to hike a zillion miles’ begins. People were parking all the way by the colony club. With Girl #1 all sexy up I didn’t want to have her walk too far, passing the throng of guys who were gonna make snide sexual comments, like ‘damn that p**** fat eh. Things like that make my blood boil. So we approached the fort from the west, the police was saying the road in front of the fish fry was closed so he directed all traffic up thru the Adastra Gardens street. No parking was available anywhere. We went down the street about half a mile then turned around, when we got to west Bay Street the policeman was gone, so we tried to find a spot along the beach along Long Wharf. 20 minutes later we found a spot that was tight and we had to parallel park. Then the walk over to the fort. Girl #1 was turning heads everywhere.
We found a spot in the middle of the crowd, mid way from the stage and we stood there and up next was Hubert. A few fiery comments got the crowd jumping and hollering. Something about Alyson Maynard and someone at ZNS and then the usual better Education, less crime and misc. other promises we heard in 2002 from Perry. Comments anyone? |
