Ghost Rock - Mon Oct 17, 2005

It was 11:20 PM last night. I went upstairs to bed. Mum had been in bed for an hour. The house gets awfully quiet at night. The moon was pretty bright outside.

As I was drifting off, I heard a noise that shot me awake. Some object was falling / rolling down the wooden staircase. At first I thought it was Toby, be he is not allowed in the front part of the house.

The thing hit every stair on the way down. Mum heard up, got up and turned on the light. I went to the top of the stairs. Mum was there in her nightgown.

At the bottom of the stairs was a rock the size of an egg laying where it came to rest on the bottom of the staircase.

It is a true mystery. Where did the rock come from? What started it rolling down the stairs. We had never seen the rock before. How did it get inside the house? There are no windows near the staircase.

Mum is afraid. She thinks that it is some omen that she can't figure out.

I, a man of science, have no frigging idea how any of this happened.
