IS THERE SOMETHING WE THE PUBLIC SHOULD KNOW E-mail

OVER THE PAST TWO WEEKS THERE HAS BEEN AN UNPRESIDENTED AMOUNT OF STORE'S CLOSING ON BAY STREET..........

THERE WAS ALWAYS PROBLEMS ON  THE EAST SIDE  OF BAY STREET BUT NOW THAT VIRUS HAS AFFECTED THE WESTERN SIDE..........

THERE  HAS BEEN SOME TEN STORES SHUT DOWNTOWN AND ALL SEEMS TO BE OWN BY THE SAME COMPANY...........

WHAT ARE WE THE BAHAMAIN PUBLIC TO EXPECT FOR THE UPCOMMING XMAS SEASON AND OUR TOURIST ...WHAT REACTION WILL THEY GET WHEN THE TOWN STARTS TO LOOK LIKE A GHOST TOWN......

WITH THESE STORE I WOULD SAY SOME 200 PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR  JOBS.....

QUESTION IS .." IS THERE SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW AS A GENERAL PUBLIC"..........

Well from what I understand a lot of the closures has to do with the decline in tourist dollars right now. Especially with the demands the US is currently putting on it's citizens requiring passports to travel. I think that Bay Street really needs a face lift anyway, along with new development and PR. We need to find a way to end the monopoly of one person or family being the owners of all the stores, which seem to offer duplicate items. I am very sadden by the lost of employment, however now that we have a new government in place these kinds of things need to be looked into - along with increasing the minimum wage scale. For too long Bahamian workers have been subject too such horrific labour laws....most individuals employed on Bay Street gross salaries' are equal too or less than $150.00 per week; while the owners are making a killing. As far as what should be disclosed to us as the general public......if the companies are closing due to their financial problems then it's their private business...if it were a public company then they would have shareholders to answer too and the general public would be alerted with some sort of disclosure in a media source. If the closures are due to upgrading the area by the government then this should be disclosed in the same manner to the general public.
