On November 4^th^, the election will be stolen. I've been thinking about this for a while. The Republicans are preparing us for the upset. Their tracking polls are telling them stuff that none of the other polls are saying and Rick Davis alluded to it today when he insisted that the other polls were just not accurate. While Barack Obama is reminding cocky supporters about the New Hampshire Primary Surprise, John McCain is expressing absolute confidence that he will win this election. No, this upset will not come down to race. It will be Democrats versus Republicans and the reality of the matter is that the Republicans hold the bag of tricks when it comes to stealing elections. Among other things they know how to call names and tell lies and make them stick. They know how to trick voters into thinking they don't have to vote or they're not entitled to vote. They know how to manipulate the court system so that results count in their favor. They know how to change registration list or simply take names off the list or add names on the list - dead or alive. They know how to spoil good ballots. They know how to make ballots disappear. Right now, more so than ever, the odds are in their favor and as the Government they get to choose the voting machines - yes - those machines that can be hacked in less than a minute, the ones that switch voting results and the ones that keep the Republican candidates ten percent ahead of their opponents and, in the case of Oprah Winfrey, the ones that help to make sure that the opponent's vote does not count. Unfortunately, in this case the opponent is the Inspirer-In-Chief, Barack Obama. Remember now, Democrats have a few tricks up their sleeves as well. I am reminded of the Democratic Primaries in New York where it is alleged that in some areas Barack Obama polled no votes and in some cases, the results were greater than the voter turnout. All of these results allegedly favored Hillary Clinton. Obama's campaign went to great lengths to keep this particular story out of the news for fear of alienating Clinton supporters who he would need should he have won the Democratic Presidential Nomination which he did. While I'm enjoying the momentum of Barack Obama's movement, the excitement that it generates for this election and the interest that it has sparked on issues that concern everyday Americans, I've prepared myself for the coming upset of another stolen election. The amount of glitches revealed in the early voting process has convinced me that sinister characters have already put mechanisms in place to derail America's promise and delay her dream of putting a severe dent in the carnage of racial prejudice and inequality by electing a black man to the highest office in the land. I've already asked my boss for two days off because I will need that time to mourn and reflect on what could have been. Yes, I have been granted the time and I will need it to weep for myself and for those who hoped with me. As I sit down and think of how this election will be stolen I wonder about people like Ted Kennedy, Keith Olbermann, Colin Powell, Warren Buffett, John Kerry, Oprah Winfrey, the hundred of endorsers and the millions of voters who truly bought into Obama's reverie of one American where our people are regarded not by the color of their skin or their political affiliation but by the content of their character. I wonder about Barack and Michelle and where they will go when all of this is over. I wonder about the dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King and the predictions of the late President John F. Kennedy. On Wednesday when we sit around the tables or in the kitchens and we think and we reflect on what has happened we will all feel like we've been robbed but once we've fallen down we can't afford to stay down. I want us to get up and dust ourselves because we've got four more years of fighting to contend with. Only this time, rather than waiting until a Democratic or Republican Primary, we can get started on November 5^th^, 2008. |
