The Beginning - Bahamian living in Canada | The Beginning - Bahamian living in Canada |

These are stories by a Bahamian son who saved his mom from the ravages of Hurricane Frances. News: I got my mother out of Freeport before Frances hit. Don't know how her home fared, but she moved out to West End when she got too old to work, and they say that 85 percent of West End was destroyed, and what's left - 85% needs repair. Mum's home is probably matchsticks, but she doesn't care anymore. The only thing that wasn't hit in the direction, was Old Bahama Bay.
Mum is settling in nicely here. She gets up early and goes outside just in time for the offbeat neighbour lady, Miss Knowlton to show up and milk the goats. Mum and Miss Knowlton really really hit it off, and they are planning at some later date to share living quarters to keep each other company. I took Mum to Citizenship and Immigration, and instead of a visitor's permit, she applied as a landed immigrant, so there is one more ex-pat Bahamian in the world. I've been really busy as well. One of our software business ventures just took off like a bat out of hell, to the point where we have a facility that now employs 27 people and we have new hires every week. We had to locate in Toronto on Kennedy Avenue (a five hour drive or a 35 minute flight) to be central to a big city and quick access to other North American cities, so I am doing a lot of commuting, and I have to give the forum a bit of a rest. I'm putting the dream of moving back to the Bahamas and working there on hold, now that Mum is here. I'll drop in every once in a while, but the way that the schedule is now working out, I'm back to being a Lurker again. Everybody stay safe, and take care, Titan (Thomas Ian) Trites aka the Lurker. |
